Brooke Cowger is a fifth-grade math teacher at Magnolia Intermediate School. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Houston-Clear Lake before transitioning to her true passion, teaching, six years ago.
Brooke implements creative and innovative teaching methods in her classroom to make learning engaging and fun. From hands on activities to incorporating real life applications, she presents math content in a variety of ways to reach her various learner styles and levels in her classroom, and her students leave her classroom loving math.
Her commitment to her students shows in her data. She achieved an 85% growth rate on the 2022 Math STAAR and an exceptional 91% growth rate on the 2023 Math STAAR. Notably, this past year, she had 100% of her students reach the approach grade level on the 5th grade math STAAR test. In tracking her current student’s data, she sets goals for her students based on last year's STAAR test results. Currently, 100% of her students have exceeded their STAAR performance on the campus and district-level assessments.
Apart from her teaching role, Brooke serves as the Team Facilitator for 5th-grade math, overseeing daily Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings and contributing to her team's recognition as a two-time district PLC Team of the Month. She helped to create and is one of the advisors for the school’s yearbook club, and she supports all her campus’ beginning-level emerging bilingual students. Brooke is also developing a new Math Intervention Program at her school set to launch in the 2024-2025 school year, showcasing her dedication to creating engaging learning environments that inspire her students to excel in math.
Recognized for her dedication to her students, Cowger was honored with the title of 2022-2023 Teacher of the Year for Magnolia Intermediate and has received the Magnolia Education Foundation Star Educator award seven times.
