Alyssa Alvarez

Sullivan Middle School
Pasadena Independent School District

Alyssa graduated from the University of Houston - Clear Lake with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She has spent the last 12 years teaching and the last two years teaching mathematics in Pasadena ISD.

Prior to teaching math, Alyssa was a reading teacher who always had a passion for mathematics. Alyssa quickly acclimated to teaching math and revamped the math program on her campus to a personalized learning approach. She encourages her students to experiment with math problems and skills before guiding them through the problems and lessons. Alyssa also incorporates Classroom Makeovers while teaching, transforming her classroom into destinations such as an operating room, a bakery and a campground. Her students take on the role of doctors and bakers and engage in a variety of math problems, while they have fun learning.

Alyssa at Minute Maid ParkAlyssa also has a passion for helping other teachers. Since 2015, she has served as a mentor to new teachers during their first year of teaching and as a Master Mentor for Pasadena ISD, which allows her to provide training to support other mentors in their work with new teachers.
